We had an AWESOME weekend with the 2019 Utah State Taekwondo Championships & National Qualifier!! AMYS had over 40 athletes compete at State in events such as Poomsae, Board Breaking, Weapons, Demo Team, and Sparring.

After a long day of competition, we are so proud to announce our school, AMYS Martial Arts, defended and won the State Championship award for TOP SCHOOL IN THE STATE!! This is the 9th year in a row our students have won the most Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals in the state to help us reach #1. What an amazing achievement!!

We are so excited to see so many students qualified for US Nationals this year and can’t wait to see them compete here in Minneapolis this July to try and become National Champions!

Congratulations to all our students, parents, and instructors for all your hard effort in making us #1- we couldn’t have accomplished this without all of YOU!!

Special Recognitions:

The following athletes were presented with certificates of Special Recognition for their outstanding performance at the 2019 Utah State Championships.

Awesome job for her first competition!

Roarke Norris

Male MVP Award

About 6 months ago, Roarke moved to Utah and started training with our AMYS Competititon Team. His hard work + effort in the training sessions has led him to be an awesome team member and also earned him a Silver Medal against high-ranked competitors in his Black Belt division.

Juan Garcia

Outstanding Sparring Athlete

Juan fought 3 exciting matches to earn the GOLD medal at State this year! He point-gapped his opponents in high-energy matches and was a blast to watch. We can’t wait to see how he does at US Nationals. Congratulations Juan!

Van Phillips

Outstanding Parent Competitor

This awesome father-daughter team competed at State and took home some medals! Mary (6) is taking her whole family on a Martial Arts journey, and even encouraged her dad to compete at his first tournament in Sparring!

Callie Sink

Outstanding Novice Competitor

Callie showed great amounts of bravery & perseverance at her first State Tournament! She competed in both Sparring and Board Breaking and had an intense match, which she barely lost in a Golden Point tie-breaker round. We’re excited to see Callie keep improving!

Max Martinez

Outstanding Blue Belt Competitor

Max demonstrated awesome determination in his sparring match at State. He worked hard to prepare, even attending extra training sessions to put in additional work. We can’t wait to see what awesome achievement Max completes next!

Remmington Campbell

Outstanding Adult Competitor

Remmington started training at AMYS a few months ago and competed in the Yellow Belt Division at his first State Competition. He won his first match in Sparring to earn a Gold Medal and also showed great strength & precision in his board breaks.

Ifeanyi Nwosu

Outstanding Red Belt Competitor

Iffy brings the best energy to any training session- and he brought it to State Championships! He won his first match against a much taller opponent with some awesome kicks. He recently had a baby and is being an awesome role model by being an amazing dad, PhD student, and still keeping up with training. Way to go Iffy!
